Look, I really need a favor from you folks. You, keyboard nerds like me. You, the keyboard “influencers” here on YouTube and TikTok. And y’all in the back, the ones who work for keyboard manufacturers. For the love of fucking god, stop calling keyboards “creamy.” It makes me want to hurl.
I honestly couldn’t even give you a technical definition of what a “creamy” keyboard or switches mean. Allegedly, it sounds like this:
Or maybe this:
Or this:
Whatever. “Creamy” is an adjective for food and maybe drinks. That’s it, at least as far as the stuff I’m allowed to talk about on PCWorld. Keyboards are made of plastic and metal and silicon, sometimes weird stuff like resin, foam, wood, concrete. And none of that shit should ever be creamy!
This wouldn’t bother me as much if it were just a bunch of keyboard fans, or YouTubers. They can say whatever they want and it isn’t my business. But now a bunch of brands are doing it. Every time I search for a keyboard on Amazon or Newegg, I’m absolutely flooded with a foaming tide of creamy keyboards.
The last straw was Keychron. That’s a company I like, it offers tons of designs, good features, very fair prices. But when I opened the latest Keychron box, I got a sticker pack. And right there in the middle, is:
This has to stop. They can’t keep getting away with this. Keyboards aren’t creamy. Please. I’m begging you, make it stop.
