RAM is getting ridiculously expensive for PC builders, but if you hunt around you might be able to find a deal…sort of. Last week Newegg offered a bundle with a “free” Intel Core 9 285K, the most expensive Intel desktop processor on the market, if you bought 64GB of G.Skill DDR5 RAM.
“Free” gets the air quotes because the bundle went for $885 US dollars. Even throwing in a $600 processor, it’s still more expensive than both the RAM and the CPU would have cost just a year ago. Thanks, AI.
Look, I’m being flippant here, but if you were planning on building a high-powered Intel desktop, that really was a good deal, at least in the nightmare landscape of PC building in 2026. Too bad it seems to have disappeared after just a day or two. He who hesitates is lost, or at least, is out 600 bucks. We’ll keep an eye out for more “deals” at PCWorld.
