SAP structures its Business AI offering into 2 main categories:
Base AI — Included at No Additional Cost
Base AI covers the foundational AI capabilities embedded in all SAP cloud applications. Premium AI — Powered by SAP AI Units

AI Units are sold in blocks. Once purchased, they are pooled at the customer level and can be applied flexibly across SAP solutions — including SAP S/4HANA Cloud, SAP SuccessFactors, SAP Ariba, SAP Cloud ALM and others. Units are not tied to a specific product or line of business, which gives organisations flexibility in how they allocate their AI investment.
Premium AI features are billed through a consumption-based model: Units are deducted based on actual usage of a specific AI service. For instance, the Document Grounding capability consumes 0.005 AI Units per record processed.

- From the feature page, select Add to Estimator to begin building your cost scenario.
Building Your Estimate
Once features are added to the estimator, you can input usage parameters relevant to your organisation — such as the number of users who will access the feature or the expected volume of documents or requests per month, or the number of dashboard cards created or updated per month. The estimator calculates the AI Units required and based on SAP list pricing, the associated cost.

The estimates produced by the Discovery Center are indicative only. As SAP states directly on the tool: “Prices shown are estimates only and do not constitute a quote or an offer.” Any negotiated discounts agreed with SAP apply to the final purchase but are not reflected in the standard estimator view. 5. How to Monitor AI Units Consumption in SAP for Me
Once Premium AI features are active, tracking consumption is managed through SAP for Me — SAP’s central customer portal for contracts, licensing, and financial management.
Navigating to the Business AI Dashboard
The AI Unit consumption dashboard is located under Finance & Legal in SAP for Me:
- Log in to me.sap.com with your SAP credentials.

Data refresh cadence. The Business AI dashboard updates daily, with data typically reflecting the previous day’s consumption. Allow 24 to 48 hours after initial setup for data to begin appearing.
Granularity limitations. The dashboard aggregates consumption at the package and feature level. It does not separate consumption by environment type (e.g., production versus test) or by individual user — a known limitation that SAP is expected to address in future releases.
Weekly reporting on some features. For certain Premium AI features, consumption data is shared via a weekly report rather than in real time. This is a current platform constraint noted in SAP support documentation, and it underscores the importance of proactive planning rather than reactive monitoring for high-volume scenarios.
