[[{“value”:”Is It a Dead Category? Mid Power or SL eMTBs, Let Us Know.

Tune in tomorrow, Tuesday the 15th at 10am PST for a YouTube LIVE as we prepare for our upcoming Mid Power eMTB Shootout.

We’re hoping to get some information from our audience to better help us review the bikes, drive units and aspects of performance that you care about!

When it comes to this category, once called “SL” it seems that bikes from brands like Pivot and Amflow are now offering 120Nm of torque and 1100+W of peak power at weights pushing sub-45lbs (certain builds) with capabilities of going lighter with aftermarket parts, a weight once reserved for SL eBikes.

Meanwhile a Trek Fuel LX or a Norco Sight TQ with a burly enduro build, coil shock and DH casing tires packs 60Nm of torque and 350W Peak Power, but can weigh nearly 49lbs! Hardly an SL, but very firmly in the “Mid Power” range.

Further adding to the confusion is the torque increase in Full Power eMTBs. At one point 85-95Nm was full power, however with full power now reaching 120Nm, it seems that an 85Nm drive unit is much closer to the TQ HPR60’s 60Nm, than class leading full power eebs. Has mid-power widened from 50-85Nm?

Help us out and shape the future of not only our next shootout but also help us report back to brands on what matters most to you when you go to look for your next bike.
