Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Tips

[[{“value”:”

Modern Warfare 4’s DMZ is now available in early access, bringing major upgrades to Call of Duty’s PvPvE extraction mode. In this guide, we’ll provide some tips for leveling up, surviving the harsh map environments, and making the most of your DMZ storage space.

Matches of DMZ allow for up to 60 players in trios, and you’re tasked with surviving and extracting in a PvPvE environment. You have 30 minutes of match time before a deadly circle of irradiated gas floods the map, and then you’ll have a final 10-minute timer to escape via one of the map’s exfil locations. As with most extraction shooters, dying in DMZ means losing everything, making it a high-risk for high-reward game mode. The choice is yours for how you want to approach a match of DMZ, but there are several things you’ll want to know before loading into the dangerous world of Hajin.

Do your DMZ orders

DMZ orders are the first mission types you are introduced to in DMZ. There are several pages of these tutorial-style objectives, but don’t disregard these for their simplicity, as they are still worth completing for the XP needed to rank up and unlock better gear and equipment.

Don’t forget FOB upgrades

3D printer FOB upgrades

Your FOB is your home base, and this is where you go between DMZ matches. The DMZ Orders mentioned above will guide you through scavenging your equipment and unlocking new FOB stations. Once you’ve unlocked the 3D Printer station at level 2, you’ll also be able to pay cash to upgrade your FOB over time, including bigger stash upgrades and larger bank storage. Make sure to make these important upgrades as soon as you can, as you’re just losing money if you don’t have enough bank storage to hold it all.

Consider using a free loadout

There are times where you might not have a lot of gear to spare or don’t want to risk high-tier loot just to go scavenging for more crafting materials. Consider using a free loadout for these occasions when the mission seems low-stakes.

Free loadouts will assign you a random low-rarity gun and basic supplies for your match. This is picked when you progress to the “ready up” section of the DMZ deployment menu within the FOB.

Pack a parachute

Unlike Warzone and the DMZ beta, you don’t have a persistent parachute in this new iteration of DMZ. This can be easy to forget when the muscle memory is already there to just randomly jump off buildings with an auto-activating parachute. However, it’s important to try and remember to scavenge and equip a parachute to your active loadout whenever possible. Falls from high rooftops and other structures will result in going into the knocked state, meaning you’ll need to self-revive or be revived by your teammates.

Most parachutes are single-use items, so it’s also worth checking to make sure you still have the parachute you recently equipped. DMZ does have extremely rare legendary-rarity (orange) parachutes that aren’t of limited use, but crafting this item requires that you first unlock its rare printer recipe.

Storage upkeep

DMZ FOB

In the beginning, you’ll have minimal backpack and stash (storage) space. Make sure to do upkeep on your storage after each mission. This means moving your items from your backpack to the stash and selling any items listed strictly as valuables.

Check the vendor daily

Once you unlock the Vendor station (DMZ level 5) for the FOB, you’ll be able to purchase new loadout items. These offerings are random, so the items you see might differ from what your teammates are shown, but the vendor often sells decent rarity weapons and gear.

The vendor items refresh daily, so always check to see what’s available each day.

Optional exfil

Certain story missions or Dynamic Ops will task you with locating a hostage and escorting them to an exfil. You can also hop on board the chopper with the NPC you’re extracting, making this an early and potentially safer extraction method, rather than using one of the public exfils marked for everyone in the match.

Activate UAV towers

UAV towers are located across various parts of Hajin. Interacting with UAV towers is one of the game’s smaller Side Ops objectives, and this is a quick way to get some cash, XP, and intel. There are usually a few guards patrolling around the towers, but there shouldn’t be too much firepower at these locations. Activating the tower will trigger a UAV pulse that reveals nearby operators and enemy NPC positions, which is always handy intel to receive.

Use weather to your advantage

Fog on Hajin

Hajin’s atmosphere can shift at any time based on environmental effects of fog and rain, creating new opportunities for how you might approach a situation. Everyone has less visibility in the fog, including the NPCs and yourself, but you can still use this to your advantage for stealth-based tactics. With the rain, you can get reduced visibility in downpours, but it also seems to slightly dampen the NPCs’ awareness. You’ll want to move slowly with rain, though. Water can create more noticeable and sloshy footsteps.

Listen for the juggernaut

Hajin features a few heavily armored bosses called commanders, who patrol the city areas of the map. The Colossus commander is a minigun-wielding juggernaut, and they can be a formidable opponent, especially if you’re caught without teammates to back you up. Listen for the audio cue to know when this threat is nearby. He plays heavy metal as he walks around, so if you hear music like someone is rocking out with a radio, you’re probably in close proximity to the Colossus.

Finding hazmat suit enemies

This tip is more situational, but certain DMZ Orders and Dynamic Ops will require you to eliminate enemies in hazmat suits. Soldiers in hazmat suits are typically found in the radiation zones of the map, meaning the initial point of the radiation storm marked on your map or the irradiated power plant. These areas of the map are deadly and require items like gas masks and radiation blockers to survive, and sometimes you won’t encounter very many hazmat-wearing NPCs. However, you can find soldiers in hazmat suits without ever going into a radiation zone. Watch for helicopters flying over Hajin with soldiers in red or white suits, as these are some of the hazmat threats you’re looking for. Shoot them out of the helicopter or destroy their ride to make progress on your challenge.
