Bosch has rolled out version 1.34 of its eBike Flow app, with the latest update adding a new Trick Check feature that can automatically recognise jumps, wheelies, manuals and stoppies. It is the headline addition this time around, with the app able to log details like height, distance, duration or angle, depending on what sort of trail-side behaviour you’re up to.

Bosch eBike Flow app now tracks your tricks

Can you wheelie for two weeks?

It is a funny idea, but also a good example of where Bosch is at with the smart system as a whole. The eBike Flow app has kept evolving well beyond the basics, with meaningful software updates that actually add fresh features and make the system feel more developed over time. That is becoming a pretty important part of the package now. Bosch is not just updating maps or moving icons around, it is steadily giving riders new functions to play with and more ways to use the system.

Trick Check sounds fun. Bosch says the bike’s sensor system automatically picks up jumps, wheelies, manuals and stoppies, confirms them with an audible signal, then shows them on the display for eight seconds before saving the data in the app for a closer look later. Whether it becomes a genuine training tool or just a new way to settle arguments in the car park, it is hard not to smile at the idea of your eBike quietly measuring your wheelie form.

Other than that, Bosch has also added heart rate data to the ride stats, so riders using a Bluetooth heart rate monitor can now review that information after the ride in the app. There is also a new favourites function for route planning, making it quicker to jump to regular destinations, plus a new SmartphoneGrip Vertical that lets riders use their phone as a portrait display on the bike.

All up, it is another reminder that the Bosch app is becoming a bigger part of the riding experience, not just a sidekick to the motor. And if this is the kind of feature Bosch is adding now, there is every chance we will see even more playful, useful and slightly unexpected updates still to come.
