When the Colossus T launched last year, it was quite a surprise from the Indonesian brand that is best known for alloy bikes.
Sporting a fantastic-looking carbon frame with adjustable geometry, MX or 29in wheel compatibility, in-frame storage, well-rounded suspension and a properly dialled ride quality, it was one of, if not THE best all-rounder, Polygon had ever produced.
But it was only available in carbon. That changes today with the new Collosus T aluminium models.

Same frame, different material
According to Polygon, the new Collosus T alloy will be more or less a mirror image of the carbon version.
That means 140mm of rear travel, paired with a 160mm fork and the PolyPocket in-frame storage, which includes a tool pouch.
The geometry adjustments will also be carried over, making for 12 possible configurations. That means independent adjustments for the head angle and BB height to accommodate 29in or MX wheels.
Looking a bit closer, the frame has a BSA-threaded BB and ISCG05 mounts, too!
What this bike is not, is lightweight. The top-spec T8 build is claimed to weigh 16.45kg, that said, for a 140mm alloy frame, it’s not necessarily an outlier, with the Giant Trance X alloy coming in at a similar figure.

IFS Compact Suspension
The Polygon Collosus T is built around the brand’s IFS Compact linkage. An evolution of the six-bar IFS linkage seen on the Collosus N, the IFS Compact is lighter, smaller, and most notably uses fewer bearings.
The IFS Compact linkage sees two counter-rotating links that generate 140mm of rear travel, and on the carbon version, Tom was impressed not just by the supportive and plush platform but also by the way it handled big, rough terrain.

Polygon Collosus T Alloy geometry
The geometry of the Collosus T is also carried directly over from the carbon frame. Out of the box with 29in wheels, it sports a 64.5° head angle, 71º seat angle and size-specific chainstays. Though not every size gets a proportional rear centre, the small and medium sizes get 430mm chainstays, and the large and XL sizes get 435mm chainstays.
The headset cups change the head angle by a full degree, and the flip chip in the front shock mount drops the BB down 4mm from high to low.
Pricing and specs
Polygon will be offering the Collosus T Alloy in three versions: T5, T6, and T8, all at impressive price points.
With so many bikes as of late pushing prices ever higher, it’s nice to see well-equipped options at a more attainable price tag. It also doesn’t appear that Polygon has watered anything down with this bike — the frame is solid. The price will likely attract first-time mountain bikers, and there is room for the frame with a rider should they want to upgrade the spec down the line.
The lowest spec T5 version starts at $3,399 AUD, which gets you a Rockshox Psylo Silver RC / Deluxe Select component and Shimano Cues 1×11 shifting. The top T8 spec jumps to a Fox 36 / Float suspension package in the brand’s Performance trim and a SRAM Eagle 70 T-Type 1×12 speed drivetrain and costs $4,999 AUD.
