The 4th generation Specialized Levo arrived last year with its boldest attitude yet. Armed with the biggest battery and most powerful motor that Specialized has ever offered, the Levo 4 is an exceptionally capable bike thanks to its excellent suspension and highly adjustable chassis. If you’re curious about the various permutations and what it’s like to live with on a daily basis, be sure to check out Mick’s long-term review.
Performance and durability aside, one thing that always stood out to us on the spec sheet was the frame’s ability to handle up to a 180mm travel fork. Given the Levo only has 150mm of rear travel, this seemed like an odd pairing. Stirring our curiosity further, we realised it’s now been seven years since Specialized released the current Kenevo.
That gave us a bit of an inkling. Perhaps we might see a more radical variation of the Levo to fill the current gap for a modern, full-powered, long travel e-MTB?
Turns out our hunch was correct, because today Specialized is rolling out the third variation of the Levo 4 family. Joining the short travel Levo R and the regular Levo, here we have the new Levo EVO.

Specialized Levo EVO Overview
The Specialized Levo EVO is a long-travel e-MTB that’s designed to thrive on the steepest and gnarliest terrain. You could view it as the spiritual successor to the old Kenevo, or a full-powered equivalent of the Kenevo SL. Whatever your perspective, this is a self-shuttling monster that’s ready to rack up as many DH laps your body can handle.
Built upon the same chassis as the regular Levo, the Levo EVO pumps things up with a 180mm travel RockShox Zeb up front. Out back is 170mm of squish that’s delivered by a unique extension link and a bigger 230×62.5mm Vivid Air shock.

The Levo EVO otherwise sticks with a dedicated mullet setup with a 29in front and 27.5in rear wheel. It also utilises the latest 3.1 motor and a huge 840Wh removable battery, just like the Levo and Levo R. It’s compatible with all the same battery options, including the 280Wh range extender, and it features the MasterMind TCU display that’s integrated into the frame’s top tube.
With all Levo 4 models sharing the same motor, battery and user interface, Specialized now has three full-powered e-MTBs to cover a variety of different riding styles and needs;
- Levo R | 140/130mm Travel, 29in Wheels, 21.16kg (S-Works)
- Levo | 160/150mm Travel, Mullet Wheels, 23.68kg (S-Works)
- Levo EVO | 180/170mm Travel, Mullet Wheels, 24.4kg (Pro)

Yep, you can ‘EVO’ your existing Levo 4!
Good news for existing Levo 4 owners who are looking for a travel boost, because Specialized will be selling the EVO extension link aftermarket for $100 AUD. However, you will need to pair that with a bigger 230×62.5mm shock to complete the package and get the full 170mm of rear travel, so it’s not exactly the cheapest upgrade.
Increasing the fork travel to 180mm will depend on which Levo model you currently own. If your bike has a Fox 38 or RockShox Zeb on the front, then you’re only an air shaft upgrade away from lifting the travel from 160 to 180mm. But if it’s a Fox 36, you won’t be able to extend the air spring any further, so you’d need to buy a 180mm fork.

Geometry & Size Chart
With the Specialized Levo EVO using the same frame as the regular Levo, the 180mm travel fork lifts up the front end and kicks back the geometry by a fair amount.
The stack height is taller, the 63.6° head angle is slacker, and so too is the 76° effective seat tube angle. The reach also shrinks a bit, with the S3 size pulling back 10mm to 445mm.
You still get the two-position flip chip in the chainstay pivot that provides you with short (435mm) and long (447mm) settings. And the modular headset allows you to slacken or steepen the angle by a full degree.
One thing the Levo EVO misses out on is the High/Low flip chip in the lower shock mount. We presume this is due to the different yoke design, which looks pretty tight on space due to the longer shock. However, it’s worth noting that the chainstay flip chip also affects the BB height, with the long position dropping the BB and the short position lifting up the BB.

Specialized Levo EVO Price & Specifications
There will be three Specialized Levo EVO models available at the time of launch; two with a carbon frame and one with an alloy frame. Prices will start at $10,200 AUD for the Levo EVO Comp Alloy.
All three models are equipped with the new RockShox Zeb and Vivid Air, and they feature exactly the same 3.1 motor and 840Wh removable battery.
The build kits are otherwise pretty similar to the regular Levo, which means the Levo EVO isn’t dramatically heavier. For the equivalent Pro model you’re looking at 24.4kg for the Levo EVO vs 23.94kg for the Levo 4. Given the price is identical, that’ll make the longer travel Levo EVO the obvious choice for anyone who’s chasing maximum capability.
