Windrose is an indie survival game sensation, and while the default experience is mostly smooth sailing, you can enhance your experience in more ways than one with the addition of mods. Despite its infancy, there are already Windrose mods that improve the game’s quality of life and gameplay, allowing you to totally customize your playthrough in whichever way you see fit.

Enhanced Merchant

While Windrose does feature several merchants that you can use to buy or sell items, they aren’t found very early on in the game. You’ll also have a difficult time finding or reaching the merchants, as they’re located in major hub areas, likely not near your base. To resolve any kind of merchant problems you might have, you can download the Enhanced Merchant mod, which puts a high-level merchant right inside your base. You’ll find a wide assortment of rare items you can buy, but you’re also able to sell anything you have lying around in a chest.

Mod creator Ice Box Studio has been extremely hard at work since Windrose was released. They have put out a series of mods that start with “More,” and simply aim to amplify all resources in the game. This includes More Mineral Resources, More Stamina, More Tree Resources, More Stacks, and a few others. All of these mods give you more of whatever is named; for example, More Mineral Resources gives you more ore per deposit when you go to mine it.

If you’ve ever attempted to smelt your own ore in Windrose, then you’re likely still waiting around to get all of your finished bars. Smelting ore, like Copper or Iron, takes quite a long time, as you need to create charcoal and then add it to a furnace, which takes several seconds just to make a single bar. To make this process faster, there’s the Fast Craft mod, which makes it so that all metal bars only take one second to make.

With how difficult combat can be in Windrose, you rely on healing items more often than most other resources. However, with the cooldown system limiting how quickly you can consume healing items in succession, you can find yourself in a pickle if you have multiple enemies bearing down on you. Fortunately, the Faster Cooldowns mod helps with that by reducing the cooldown time of items after you consume them. Now, you’re able to drink another healing potion only a couple of seconds after the first one.

Naval combat is crucial to your survival and success in Windrose, as defeating and looting enemy ships is a great source of early and late-game resources.
