Windrose is an indie survival game sensation, and while the default experience is mostly smooth sailing, you can enhance your experience in more ways than one with the addition of mods. Despite its infancy, there are already Windrose mods that improve the game’s quality of life and gameplay, allowing you to totally customize your playthrough in whichever way you see fit.
Below, we have compiled a list of the best Windrose mods that you can currently download. Over the coming weeks and months, more mods will be added to the list as new ones begin to pop up more frequently.
Enhanced Merchant

- Download link: Nexus Mods
While Windrose does feature several merchants that you can use to buy or sell items, they aren’t found very early on in the game. You’ll also have a difficult time finding or reaching the merchants, as they’re located in major hub areas, likely not near your base. To resolve any kind of merchant problems you might have, you can download the Enhanced Merchant mod, which puts a high-level merchant right inside your base. You’ll find a wide assortment of rare items you can buy, but you’re also able to sell anything you have lying around in a chest.
“More” Mods from Ice Box Studio

- Created by: Ice Box Studio
- Download link: Nexus Mods
Mod creator Ice Box Studio has been extremely hard at work since Windrose was released. They have put out a series of mods that start with “More,” and simply aim to amplify all resources in the game. This includes More Mineral Resources, More Stamina, More Tree Resources, More Stacks, and a few others. All of these mods give you more of whatever is named; for example, More Mineral Resources gives you more ore per deposit when you go to mine it.
Fast Craft

- Download link: Nexus Mods
If you’ve ever attempted to smelt your own ore in Windrose, then you’re likely still waiting around to get all of your finished bars. Smelting ore, like Copper or Iron, takes quite a long time, as you need to create charcoal and then add it to a furnace, which takes several seconds just to make a single bar. To make this process faster, there’s the Fast Craft mod, which makes it so that all metal bars only take one second to make.
Fast Travel Plus

- Created by: Vidguy10
- Download link: Nexus Mods
The fast travel system in Windrose can be slightly unforgiving, as you only get access to 10 craftable fast travel stations and you always need to have a fast travel bell in your inventory to build them. While this core process won’t change, the Fast Travel Plus mod expands how many fast travel stations you can build. Now, you don’t have to worry as much about strategically placing and dismantling certain fast travel spots around the map.
Extended Bonfire Radius

- Created by: Ice Box Studio
- Download link: Nexus Mods
There aren’t many things worse in Windrose than trying to build something cool at your base, only to find that you’re exceeding the radius of your bonfire. If you’ve ever felt you just needed a few more feet for your base, download the Extended Bonfire Radius mod. This increases the overall buildable area you have access to, allowing you to construct more objects and structures for your pirate shanty house.
Faster Cooldowns

- Created by: Lord Gregory
- Download link: Nexus Mods
With how difficult combat can be in Windrose, you rely on healing items more often than most other resources. However, with the cooldown system limiting how quickly you can consume healing items in succession, you can find yourself in a pickle if you have multiple enemies bearing down on you. Fortunately, the Faster Cooldowns mod helps with that by reducing the cooldown time of items after you consume them. Now, you’re able to drink another healing potion only a couple of seconds after the first one.
Any Cannon Any Ship

- Created by: xDeath420x
- Download link: Nexus Mods
Naval combat is crucial to your survival and success in Windrose, as defeating and looting enemy ships is a great source of early and late-game resources. Your primary way of damaging enemy ships is with cannons, but depending on the ship you’re using, your cannons might not be powerful enough to take down a high-level frigate. However, with the Any Cannon Any Ship mod, your ship is no longer a limiting factor when it comes to the cannons you can equip. Now, even your smaller ships in Windrose can come with massive cannons that put a hole through anything they shoot at.
Hero Reforged

- Created by: axbhub
- Download link: Nexus Mods
Your pirate character in Windrose is certainly not the strongest living creature in the game, as even small enemies like boars can drain your HP in the blink of an eye. To buff up your character’s stats and make them a true force to be reckoned with, download the Hero Reforged mod. This mod boosts your stats across the board, making you stronger and faster as well as more lethal and mobile in combat. You also gain the ability to keep your items on death, saving you a trip to go loot your gravestone wherever you died last.
UnLockShip

- Created by: MODDUCK
- Download link: Nexus Mods
There are just shy of a dozen total ships you can command in Windrose, but several of those are locked behind major story progression. If you want to access all of the possible ships early, just download the UnLockShip mod. Now, at your shipyard, you can purchase and upgrade every ship in the game, which can be incredibly overpowered in the early and mid-game when all of the enemy ships around you are low-level ketches.
Ammo and Gunpowder Crafting 2x 5x 10x

- Created by: TheHeechee
- Download link: Nexus Mods
Gunpowder is one of the trickier resources to come by in the land of pirates. You can loot it from enemies and their chests, but crafting the resource requires a high-level station and dozens of hours of playtime. To bypass all of that, you can download the Ammo and Gunpowder Crafting 2x 5x 10x mod. This allows you to
