Chery Arizzo S debuts in Beijing – concept previews a 261 PS/400 Nm 2.0 litre turbo fastback-styled sedan

The Chinese new car scene may be filled with SUVs and, to a lesser extent, MPVs, but that doesn’t mean that the venerable sedan has been completely forgotten. While no longer the dominant bodystyle across the spectrum, there’s still a market space for it, and automakers continue to ply that route as a variation in their model line-up.

Chery is one of those – while it has a number of Arizzo sedans circulating about (for example, the 5 and 8) the brand looks like it wants to broaden things further on the four-door saloon front, and the debut of the Arrizo S concept at Auto China 2026 signals that intent.

The study reportedly previews a sedan that will be positioned above the current Arrizo lineup, aimed at buyers looking for an upper B-class segment offering with a stronger emphasis on performance and technology, CarNewsChina reports, citing Autohome.

The external shape is a blend of various design formats. There’s an Audi-esque look to the front, aided by a large hexagonal front grille and rakish headlights, while the depiction at the rear is unmistakably fastback in its presentation, complete with a full-width tail light assembly and a heavily sculpted bumper. Two-tone multi-spoke alloys and red brake calipers add some sport to the overall look.

According to the report, Chery has confirmed the Arrizo S will use a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine offering 261 PS (257 hp, or 192 kW), numbers that align with the upper range of the brand’s ICE units and are consistent with outputs seen in the latest Arrizo 8 variants. While transmission details were not revealed, the car could use the brand’s self-developed eight-speed automatic gearbox, as seen on earlier Arrizo models.

The report adds that the Arrizo S will be equipped with Chery’s Falcon Intelligent Driving assistance system, which will offer advanced ADAS features such as urban/highway navigation and automated parking as part of the automaker’s broader push into integrated intelligent driving and chassis control technologies.

Will something like the Arizzo S make its way to Malaysia? Well, despite the sedan segment having shrunk in size, word is that the brand isn’t discounting introducing something along those lines here, but that won’t be so soon – if a sedan does come, it will be well after the Q compact electric hatch and the Himla pick-up (both of which are inbound), we were told. Which means it’ll be at least two years before it shows up, and it’s anyone’s guess as to which Arizzo it will be.
