I break down why managed agents will be a major trend in 2026 and what they solve: long-running agent loops that need sandboxes, persistent state, context management, credentials, and failure recovery. I explain the managed-agent runtime idea (model/brain, tools/hands, and a durable session log) and why providers are absorbing the orchestration layer. Then I compare Anthropic’s deeper, multi-resource API (versioned agents, environments, sessions, typed event streams, interruptions) with Google’s simpler single-call approach in Gemini API, plus differences in tools, MCP support, OAuth vaults, memory features, and pricing. I also cover Google’s separate Gemini Enterprise Agent platform (private preview) that adds MCP, auth manager, memory bank, and skills. Finally, I discuss tradeoffs like vendor lock-in, model behavior drift, and preview limitations.
