Nintendo is planning to stream its summer showcase of upcoming Switch and Switch 2 games early next week, according to multiple reports.
Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb said in a podcast that he expects a Nintendo Direct to happen on Tuesday, June 9. Similarly, noted leaker NateTheHate claimed in his own podcast that a Direct will take place in the second week of June.
A Nintendo Direct in June would be unsurprising–there’s been some type of Nintendo video presentation every June since the company began doing digital presentations in the 3DS and Wii U era.
Usually, those presentations would happen during E3, but in this post-E3 time, Nintendo has generally aimed for a mid-June date with its Directs. The 2023 and 2024 June Directs took place on June 21 and 18, respectively. A Nintendo Direct on June 9 would place it a lot closer to Summer Game Fest and the litany of showcases happening around that time.
Grubb speculates that such a presentation would be a general Direct, rather than a showcase for partner games, indies, or a specific title. Last year, Nintendo’s June Direct was devoted to Donkey Kong Bananza, though this was not long after Nintendo launched the Switch 2, which already had a hefty showcase that April.
As for what to expect from a Nintendo Direct next week, we’ll probably see more from announced games like Rhythm Heaven Groove and Splatoon Raiders, both due for July releases. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave lacks a proper release date, so that could emerge then. But what would be the perfect cap is a confirmation that the much-reported-on remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time indeed exists.
