Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced sets sail for PC and consoles in July, and so far, it’s looking visually impressive. How well will a trip to the Caribbean during the golden age of piracy look on PS5? Pretty well if you’re planning to play it on the $900 PS5 Pro, while the base PS5 version also looks like it’ll offer a solid selection of graphical modes to choose from.
Both PS5 consoles will allow users to play the game in Performance (60fps), Fidelity (30fps), and Balanced modes (40fps) that a number of games feature. On base PS5, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced aims for those frame-rates while being rendered at an upscaled 4K resolution. Standard ray tracing is used in Performance mode, while the Quality and Balanced modes make use of an extended ray tracing to render more complex lighting and reflections throughout the game world.
On PS5 Pro, the game will use extended ray tracing through all three modes. The other big difference is that Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced aims for its upscaled 4K resolution through the use of the console’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution technology, which should result in a sharper image. One other area where the PS5 Pro offers better performance is in the hair department, as Ubisoft says that strand-based hair is available for Edward in all modes, allowing for realistic movement of his sea-soaked mop.

Other improvements in the game across all platforms include the simulation of weather in real time, a fully modernized water system, and other effects to create a more immersive experience. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: Resynced launches on July 9 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and preorders are still live for the game. While you’ll still have to wait a few more days to play it, you can stream the best part of Black Flag right now–it’s jaunty sea shanties.
