Introduction
IBM Cloud offers different ways of resizing an IBM Power Virtual Server instance,
with or without resizing the SAP storage volumes.
Both processes are fast, the SAP settings remain untouched.
- Resizing CPU and memory by changing the SAP hardware profile of the IBM Power Virtual Server instance without relocation.
The volume storages remain untouched in size. - Relocate SAP workload from one hardware profile to a new IBM Power Virtual Server instance in the same workspace.
The storage volumes can be increased, the new hardware profile can be larger or smaller,
The VM action ‘Capture and export’ offers the creation of an IBM boot image that includes all storage volumes.
A newly created IBM Power Virtual Server instance in the same workspace can be deployed with this exported catalog image with all former SAP volumes and the boot volume included.
Storage volumes and all SAP HANA volumes can be resized to a different self-defined size.
The SAP hardware profile can be increased or decreased to a selectable size of memory and CPU.
Only OS commands to recognize the storage volumes are required, the SAP HANA settings remain untouched.
The creation of the IBM boot image takes very few minutes, as does the creation of the new IBM Power Virtual Server instance.
