Good to Know Series #5
Migrating Customer Business Partners Using the Fiori App “Migrate Your Data” in SAP S/4HANA 2025
Introduction
One of the most important activities in any SAP implementation or S/4HANA migration project is migrating master data.
Without Customer Business Partners, users cannot create Sales Orders, Deliveries, or Billing Documents. Therefore, ensuring that customer master data is migrated correctly is one of the first priorities during project implementation.
SAP provides a standard Fiori application called Migrate Your Data, which offers a guided, step-by-step process to migrate master data into SAP S/4HANA.
In this blog, I’ll walk you through the complete process of migrating Customer Business Partners using the Migrate Your Data Fiori app in SAP S/4HANA 2025.
Along the way, I’ll also share a few practical tips that have helped me during implementation projects.
________________________________________
Step 1
Access the Fiori App
Log in to the SAP Fiori Launchpad.
Search for and open the Migrate Your Data app.

Download the Migration Template
Inside the migration project, click Download Template.

PrashanthGaddam_14-1785632741165.png

SAP downloads an XML template that contains all the required fields for Customer migration.

PrashanthGaddam_15-1785632760820.png

Download and save the XML file on your desktop. Open the XML file using Microsoft Excel.
You’ll notice that the template contains multiple worksheets for different types of customer information.
For example:
• General Data

• BP Roles

PrashanthGaddam_19-1785632850422.pngPrashanthGaddam_20-1785632859497.png

Not every worksheet is mandatory.
Maintain only the sheets that are relevant to your migration scenario.

________________________________________
Fill the Migration Template
Enter the required customer information such as:
• Customer Number
• Customer Name
• Address
• Country
• Language
• Company Code
• Reconciliation Account
• Payment Terms
• Sales Organization
• Distribution Channel
• Division
Save the XML file after entering the data.
________________________________________
Project Tip
For your very first migration, I strongly recommend maintaining only one customer record.
This makes it much easier to identify validation errors and understand the migration process before uploading hundreds or thousands of customers.
Once everything works successfully, you can proceed with larger data volumes.
________________________________________
Step 4
Upload the Prepared File
Return to the migration project.
Upload the completed XML template.
SAP validates the file structure automatically.

After uploading the file, go back to the Migration Project and click Monitoring.

Click Prepare to start preparing the staging tables.

PrashanthGaddam_24-1785633342519.pngPrashanthGaddam_25-1785633397512.png

Wait until the status changes successfully.

On this activity system may take more time in Preparing the staging tables.

________________________________________
Step 5
Complete Mapping Tasks
Once preparation is completed, open Mapping Tasks.

PrashanthGaddam_27-1785633493043.png

SAP automatically maps most of the values.
Review the mappings carefully.
You can either:
• Confirm each mapping individually
or
• Select all mappings and click Confirm.

PrashanthGaddam_28-1785633514248.png

PrashanthGaddam_29-1785633536656.png

Once all mapping tasks are confirmed, return to the Monitoring screen.
________________________________________
Step 6
Simulate the Migration
Now click Simulate.

PrashanthGaddam_30-1785633576820.png

SAP checks all uploaded data before actually creating Business Partners.
This is one of the most important steps.
Never skip Simulation.

PrashanthGaddam_31-1785633590784.png

It helps identify missing mandatory fields, invalid configuration values, or incorrect mappings before any data is created in the system.
________________________________________
Common Validation Errors
During Simulation, you may encounter errors like:
• Company Code does not exist
• Sales Organization is invalid
• Reconciliation Account missing
• Payment Terms invalid
• Mandatory field missing
• Duplicate Customer Number
• Invalid Country Code
• Missing Business Partner Role
Resolve all validation errors before proceeding.
________________________________________
Step 7
Execute the Migration
Once the Simulation completes successfully without errors, click Migrate Data.

PrashanthGaddam_32-1785633615295.png

PrashanthGaddam_33-1785633649275.png

You are going to migrate data. The migration cannot be undone. Are you sure you want to continue?

PrashanthGaddam_34-1785633658183.png

SAP starts creating the Customer Business Partners.
Monitor the migration progress from the Monitoring screen.

PrashanthGaddam_35-1785633667455.png

After successful completion, the status changes to Completed.

PrashanthGaddam_36-1785633675725.png

Click on Migration results.

PrashanthGaddam_37-1785633683291.png

________________________________________
Step 8

Verify the Migrated Data
Now verify the migrated Business Partners.
Open:
• BP
• Display Business Partner
You can also verify the data using the relevant database tables if required.
Check that the following information has been migrated correctly:
• General Data
• Company Code Data
• Sales Area Data
• Payment Terms
• Reconciliation Account
• Tax Classification
• Address
• Partner Functions

PrashanthGaddam_38-1785633730639.png

________________________________________
Step 9
Complete the Migration Project
Once everything has been verified successfully, return to the Migrate Your Data app and mark the migration project as Completed.
You can now inform the business users that the customer migration has been completed successfully.
________________________________________
Things to Remember
Even though the migration completes successfully, always verify the following before handing over the system to the business.
✔ Business Partner created successfully
✔ Customer Roles (FLCU00 and FLCU01)
✔ Company Code Data
✔ Sales Area Data
✔ Payment Terms
✔ Reconciliation Account
✔ Partner Functions
✔ Tax Classification
✔ Address Details
✔ Search Terms
A few minutes spent verifying the data can save hours of correction later.

Conclusion
Migrating Customer Business Partners is one of the most important activities during an SAP S/4HANA implementation or migration project.
The Migrate Your Data Fiori app provides a simple and guided approach that helps consultants migrate master data efficiently while reducing manual effort.
One recommendation from my project experience is to always start with a single customer record. Once the migration is successful and validated, proceed with larger data loads. This approach makes troubleshooting much easier and helps avoid unnecessary issues during migration.
I hope this blog gives you a clear understanding of the complete Customer Business Partner migration process in SAP S/4HANA 2025.
If you’ve worked on migration projects and have any useful tips or experiences, feel free to share them in the comments. I’d love to hear how you’ve approached customer migration in your projects.

Happy Learning!
