Last week’s announcement of the Uber-like Ride Stimulator might have flown under your radar, but in case you missed it, you also missed out on a not-so-subtle dig at Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford. According to Saber Interactive boss Matt Karch, the company is publishing the game. The reveal trailer for the game does indeed include a dig at Pitchford’s infamous flash drive incident and his passion for stage magic.
At one point in the trailer, you can see a car license plate with “USB DRV” on it, alongside a reference to the US state of Texas. A voiceover in the trailer also mentions having met “the randiest of passengers” and taking passengers to a “castle” in town. Karch confirmed that these are all digs at Pitchford and the Texas-based Gearbox, referencing how the studio allegedly fired a few shots at its former owner, Embracer Group, in Borderlands 4.
Saber Interactive was also previously owned by Embracer Group, but the two parted ways after a group of private investors purchased the game developer in 2024. Karch, who previously served on the board of directors at Embracer, has been a staunch supporter of the embattled company since his exit.
“The dig is because Randy took shots at Embracer in Borderlands 4,” Karch said to Game File. “Without Embracer, Randy is performing magic tricks at birthday parties for a living. It’s amazing to me how fast people forget those who went above and beyond for them.”
Embracer Group acquired Gearbox in 2021, but they later sold it to Take-Two Interactive in 2024 for $460 million. When Gearbox released Borderlands 4 in 2025, players could find a small rundown town called Embracer’s Bluff, which was thought to be the studio poking fun at its former owner. While the developer never confirmed this, Embracer’s Bluff did include jokes thought to be at Embracer’s expense. The “castle” reference likely alludes to Pitchford’s 2022 purchase of Hollywood’s Magic Castle, while the USB drive refers to the thumb drive that Pitchford lost at a restaurant several years ago.
Not only did the USB drive reportedly contain confidential information, but it also allegedly had “barely legal pornography” on it. While Pitchford has been a controversial figure as the public face of Gearbox Entertainment, he still has supporters.
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick commented last year on how much he respects Pitchford’s personality and passion, even suggesting that some of Pitchford’s capers might be done on purpose.
