The Legend of Zelda Direct was chock full of new details on the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, which composed the bulk of the presentation. That included a couple of new Amiibo figurines to collect, with some, uh, questionable in-game rewards.
The Amiibo themselves are figurines of young Link and young Zelda, and they are appropriately very cute. Link gazes up at Navi perched on his hand, while Zelda sits with her Ocarina. There’s a lovely degree of detail. They’ll be available in 2027, well after the remake actually hits Switch 2 this November.
Scanning them in-game, though, grants you the dubious reward of masks modeled after their original, more polygonal-forward N64 models. And friends, those faces on young Link’s new body is a harrowing sight.
Generally Amiibo figures grant cosmetic rewards or shortcuts, so these may not have much impact on gameplay. There may be an Easter egg, though, if it changes dialogue when NPCs see you in your mask. And naturally someone out there will definitely beat the game wearing these to see if they show up in cutscenes. We can hope.
