In Parts 1 and 2, we covered the fundamentals of SAP HANA Native Storage Extension (NSE), how to enable it with BW 7.5, and how to configure and monitor it in production.

In Part 3, we take the next step, what happens when you move from a PoC to implementation at scale?

NSE can reduce the HANA memory footprint of large BW objects, but achieving sustainable savings requires more than simply converting large tables to page-loadable storage.

This part covers:

  • Implementation at scale: partitioning considerations, workload pressure, delta merges, and production concurrency
  • Realistic memory savings: why theoretical storage-to-memory ratios should not be used as sizing assumptions
  • NSE candidate selection: understanding data age, access patterns, workload, and business criticality
  • Operational considerations: ongoing monitoring, data growth, and what happens when NSE needs to be reverted
  • RISE & BDC sizing: why NSE-based memory savings need to be considered carefully when right-sizing HANA infrastructure
  • SAP Diet Strategy: looking beyond NSE to combine hot, warm, cold, and retirement strategies for a sustainable BW data lifecycle
