God Of War Ragnarok Is Finally Cheap Enough To Make Me Say “Boy, Buy It”

If I had to pick a favorite franchise, God of War would be it — I’m avoiding the glaring eyes of Pikachu right now, sorry. As someone who has played both eras of PlayStation’s series, from the hack-and-slash greatness of an angry Kratos to the well-crafted storytelling of the Norse duology, seeing everything come to fruition is truly engaging. Ragnarok brings you right into the latest chapter of Kratos and Atreus’ story. With a brilliant roguelite mode in Valhalla, God of War Ragnarok is an adventure you need to experience, so why not pick it up while it’s cheaper than ever on PC?

As one of the best PS5 games, God of War Ragnarok follows the events of 2018’s pseudo-reboot, pseudo-sequel. This time, Kratos and Atreus are knee-deep in snow thanks to the onset of Ragnarok, the apocalypse of the Norse world. And, frustratingly for our Greek God of War, the end of another pantheon. With the All-Father Odin seeking absolute knowledge and a murderous Vanir goddess on their tail, it’s not exactly a cheery time for father and son.

After a battle between Kratos and Thor, the goal is to unite the realms before the end of all things, and, well, Odin doesn’t exactly want that to happen. While I’ve always loved the God of War series, with the earlier entries focusing on a Greek tragedy-style narrative, the 2018 game and Ragnarok are more cinematic experiences. The old-school hack-and-slash combat has been replaced with something that has a more brutal, grounded energy, where every swing of the Leviathan Axe and every slash with the iconic Blades of Chaos feels satisfying.

The post-launch Valhalla mode only adds more depth to the existing combat, and you’d be foolish to think it’s just a roguelite mode. While it adds replayability through different upgrades and attributes with each run, it also has a story of its own, adding even more value to the main adventure. I won’t spoil it, as you deserve to experience it firsthand. It’s a substantial bonus on top of an already excellent game.

I could call upon Ares to destroy the price, but apparently, he’s already done the job. God of War Ragnarok has dropped to just $36.59 / £30.49 at Fanatical, its lowest price yet on PC. That’s a bargain worthy of the gods.

At this price, even Kratos might crack a smile. Probably. Don’t push your luck.
