There are 2 scenarios while resetting system password for Systemdb and Tenantdb.
Scenario 1-You are not able to login to SYSTEMDB and TENANTDB using SYSTEM User
Scenario 2-You are able to login to SYSTEMDB using SYSTEM User but not able to login to Tenantdb using SYSTEM User
Note:Create the password as per the SAP Standard,Copy it and be ready.HANA DB should be online while performing this activity
If you fall in Scenario 1.Perform the below Steps
a.Suspend background jobs sa38-btctrns1
b.Stop SAP Application
su – sidadm
sapcontrol -nr <instance number> -function StopSystem —->For S/4 HANA system
stopsap R/3 —->For SAP NetWeaver systems
c.Go to DB server and execute the below commands
su – hidadm
/usr/sap/SID/HDB<instance number>/exe/sapcontrol -nr <instance number> -function StopSystem HDB
/usr/sap/SID/HDB<instance number>/hdbenv.sh
/usr/sap/SID/HDB<instance number>/exe/hdbnameserver -resetUserSystem
It will ask for New Password and Retype New Password-Paste the password which you had copied earlier
/usr/sap/SID/HDB<instance number>/exe/sapcontrol -nr <instance number> -function StartSystem HDB
Verification
HDB info-Check all the services are started
Login to SYSTEMDB using SYSTEM User in HANA Studio with newly reset password
If you fall in Scenario 2.Perform the below Steps
a.Suspend background jobs sa38-btctrns1
b.Stop SAP Application
su – sidadm
sapcontrol -nr <instance number> -function StopSystem —->For S/4 HANA system
stopsap R/3 —->For SAP NetWeaver systems
c.As you are able to login with SYSTEM User of SYSTEMDB
Go to HANA studio Open SQL console
Execute the below commands.Make sure password is not having special characters
Command 1-ALTER SYSTEM STOP DATABASE <SID>
Stops the Tenant DB only
Command 2-ALTER DATABASE H2D SYSTEM USER PASSWORD <password>
Reset’s the password
Verification
HDB info-Check all the services are started
Login to TENANTDB using SYSTEM User in HANA Studio with newly reset password.It will give you the prompt to change the password.Give the newly reset password and your desired new password and save.
