Provisioning an SAP Cloud Identity Services Tenant via Self-Service Request in SAP for Me

A practical, step-by-step walkthrough of requesting your test or production tenant directly from SAP’s central customer portal — no support ticket required.

🗓️ Updated October 2026 ⏱️ ~8 min read 👤For SAP administrators & S-user holders

SAP Cloud Identity Services is the backbone for authentication, single sign-on, and identity provisioning across your SAP landscape. Before you can configure any of that, you need a tenant. This guide shows you how to request one yourself through SAP for Me — SAP’s central customer portal for managing products, systems, and entitlements.

Before you start: do you already have a tenant? A tenant may already have been created for you automatically as part of a bundle with an SAP cloud solution. Always check first — if a tenant exists and you are one of its administrators, go straight to the Administration Console instead of requesting a new one. New tenants are created only if there are no existing tenants bound to your Customer ID.

00. Prerequisites

What you need Details

An S-user ID With your SAP for Me credentials and the appropriate authorizations to request/provision systems for your Customer ID.
Confirmed there’s no existing tenant Check View Assigned Tenants and Administrators. A tenant is reused across SAP cloud solutions — you usually want one productive tenant for out-of-the-box SSO.
Know your region For EU Access contracts, pick a tenant located in Europe. Region choice affects performance and compliance.
A target resource group (Flow A) You’ll select a Path to a resource group during the wizard.

01. Two starting points in SAP for Me

SAP for Me offers two different dashboards from which you can obtain a tenant. Pick the one that matches your scenario:

Dashboard Use it when…

Portfolio & Products
The commercial catalog of what you purchased
You want to explicitly request a test or production tenant for integration with SAP-managed cloud ERP applications, Joule, and other supported solutions. The tenant comes with SAP-managed integration configurations. → Flow A
Systems & Provisioning
Where you view, request, activate & manage cloud tenants
You’re provisioning an SAP cloud solution and want a tenant bundled with it, preconfigured and in the same region. The tenant is created automatically as part of that request. → Flow B

02. Flow A — Request a tenant from Portfolio & Products

This is the classic self-service “Get Tenant” path. Follow the steps below.

1. Log on to SAP for Me and open the Portfolio & Products dashboard

Sign in at me.sap.com with your S-user ID and password, then open the Portfolio & Products dashboard.

2. Go to the My Product Packages tab and select the SAP Cloud Identity Services tile

Open the My Product Packages tab, then click the SAP Cloud Identity Services tile to open its details.

3. Open the Applications tab and choose Start Provisioning

Inside the product, switch to the Applications tab. On the SAP Cloud Identity Services tile, choose Start Provisioning. The Create Solution wizard launches.

The Applications tab — choose “Start Provisioning” to launch the Create Solution wizard.

4. Fill in General Information

In the first step of the wizard, provide the following and then choose Next Step:

  • Entitlement System — read-only; displays the system ID of SAP Cloud Identity.
  • Name — a unique name for the solution. Max 63 characters, lowercase letters, numbers, hyphens and periods only; must start and end with a letter or number.
  • Path — use the Value Help to select a path to a resource group.
  • Business Type — choose Test or Production.
You can’t rename a solution after you create it. Decide on the name carefully before moving on.

Step 1 — General Information. Entitlement System is pre-filled; you set Name, Path and Business Type.

5. Configure parameters — select a region

In the Configure Parameters step, select the region where the tenant will be hosted, then choose Review.

Step 2 — Configure Parameters. Pick the hosting region for the tenant.

6. Review your entries and choose Finish

On the Review step, double-check everything — especially the Name and Business Type, which can’t be changed later — then choose Finish. Your provisioning request starts immediately.

Step 3 — Review and Finish. The request is submitted the moment you confirm.

7. Track status on the Resources tab until it’s Ready

Provisioning takes a few moments. The solution resource reaches Ready status only when all tenants are successfully provisioned and the integrations are fully established. Monitor progress on the Resources tab. You can find out the tenant address within the detail page.

The Resources tab — watch each resource move from In Progress to Ready.

Done! Once the tenant is provisioned, you can proceed to provision your SAP cloud applications — the new SAP Cloud Identity tenant will be available for selection during that process.

03. Flow B — Get a tenant from Systems & Provisioning (bundled)

Use this flow when you want a tenant bundled with an SAP cloud solution e.g. SAP Cloud ALM. There’s no separate “request tenant” button here — when you provision your application and no SAP Cloud Identity Services tenant is available, one is created automatically when you submit the request.

Step 1 — Open Systems & Provisioning → Provisioning tab

Log on to SAP for Me, open the Systems & Provisioning dashboard, and go to the Provisioning tab.

Step 2 — Choose Start Provisioning for your solution

Under Systems to be Provisioned, choose Start Provisioning for the SAP cloud solution you want to bundle with SAP Cloud Identity Services.

If the button is disabled… automatic tenant creation isn’t available for this case. You must first request a tenant manually in the SAP BTP cockpit, then return to SAP for Me and restart provisioning so the new tenant appears for selection.

Step 3 — Complete the Start New Provisioning Request dialog

Provide the following, then choose Submit:

Field What to enter

Region The data-center location for the solution tenant. Not available for all applications; may be system-determined by your contract.
Integration with SAP Cloud Identity Services Select a test or production SAP Cloud Identity tenant. For some apps you can integrate a test application tenant with a productive identity tenant.
Owner of SAP Cloud Identity Services Own systems (same Customer ID) or Shared systems (a tenant from a different Customer ID shared with your company).

04. After provisioning & next steps

  • Activate your tenant. Depending on the path, you may receive an account activation email. Open it, follow the link, set your administrator password, and continue into the Administration Console.
  • A self-service tenant is not preconfigured. You must configure it for your specific authentication and provisioning scenario (identity sources, SSO, provisioning targets, etc.).
  • Reuse before you request. For out-of-the-box SSO between SAP cloud solutions, use a single productive tenant wherever possible.
  • Special cases: multi-region businesses can request additional per-region tenants; each SAP SuccessFactors instance should get its own tenant via the SuccessFactors Upgrade Center.
Products delivered on SAP BTP? Products running on a customer-managed SAP BTP subaccount usually don’t trigger automatic tenant creation — you request the tenant in the SAP BTP cockpit instead. On an SAP-managed subaccount, the tenant is provisioned automatically with the application.
