Deltarune has finally gotten its next two chapters after so many years of waiting, and with that comes a lot of new secret encounters to discover. In the third chapter, there are various optional secrets you can find, but it will take quite a bit of effort on your part. In this guide, which will try to avoid spoilers as much as possible, we will try to help you get the Shadow Mantle needed for a secret boss encounter.
Shadow Mantle Minimal Spoilers Guide | Deltarune Chapter 3
First, you will need to achieve rank S on the first board, which you can do by earning it normally or through the use of a counterfeit, which is another “secret” of sorts.
With access to the first room, play the game and acquire a sword that you can now find here. Using this weapon, kill every enemy you find so that the sword reaches level 2.
Once that happens, you can cut through the trees until you find a red chest, which contains an ice key. With the ice key on hand, you are now done with this part until the next one.
At Board 2, once you get the raft, you can keep going north at a certain point. Tenna will keep telling you that there is nothing there. Eventually, as you ignore Tenna’s warnings, you will start to see blocks of ice.
When you reach that point, Tenna will reset the game. Come back later when you are all alone, then use the raft to move all the way up there again. This time, since Tenna is not around, there will be no one objecting to your plan.
Now that you have reached the icy part of the map, proceed up north until you find a blue door. You will need to use your sword to cut through a bit of debris along the way.
Using the ice key, you can open this door to enter a dungeon full of enemies that you can kill. Level up your sword by slaying everything you see. Do this until the sword is at max level.
With a max level sword, look for the room with two orange trees. You can cut these down with your weapon now. There will be an NPC here that you can recruit, so touch them and move on.
There are various puzzles to encounter, including a maze that might confuse you at first. The only hint we will give you is to pay attention to what your follower is doing. They will subtly help you figure out the solution.
We will leave you with that, as everything else past this section is going to contain major spoilers for the story, which kind of ruins the fun as that is what you are likely playing the game for in the first place.
One hint for the final step for the shadow mantle, though, is that you are going to need to access another red chest, and you will need more than just your character in the game board to do it. Pay attention to the lines leading to the TV.
