You’ll need to hoard more and more resources as you get more Alters in The Alters, but that will require you to increase your base Storage via advanced Research. Upgrading your base will unlock new Research options. This includes, amongst many things, larger Storage modules you can build. In this guide, we’ll tell you how to unlock all of these!
How To Increase Base Storage & Get Advanced Research | The Alters
To increase the Storage for your base, you’ll need to build any of the Storage modules. Here’s a full list of all of the Storage units you can unlock and build:
- Small Storage – Available from the start of Act 1. Building it costs 30 Metals, requires 2×2 space, has a mass of 28, and adds 120 to the base’s total storage.
- Medium Storage – Research unlocked at Qubit Level 2. Building it costs 60 Metals and 10 Minerals. Requires 8×1 space, has a mass of 65, and adds 300 to the base’s total storage.
- Large Storage – Research unlocked after you research the Medium Storage. Building it costs 150 Metals and 40 Minerals. Requires 8×2 space, has a mass of 140, and adds 700 to the base’s total storage.
Now, with that said, you should’ve noticed that the Medium Storage in particular requires you to upgrade your Qubit Level first. That’s because each Qubit Level you go up will unlock more and more advanced Research options for you. For that, you’ll need to recover and repair Damaged Chips. There are 3 of them found across Act 1 and Act 2.
Where to Find and How to Use the Damaged Chips
Now, for the locations of the Damaged Chips. You can find your first one in Act 1, on the spot marked on the map above. It’s close to the Minerals deposit you need to get as part of the story.
The next Damaged Chip you can find is in Act 2, as shown above. It’s by an Enriched Metal deposit, not far off from your base’s location.
The third and final Damaged Chip is also found in Act 2. It’s deeper into the area, surrounded by a large anomaly in the forested area. You’ll need to wait for the anomaly to shrink before you can destroy its cores and get the chip.
After that, just bring the Damaged Chips to your Workshop. Repair them to craft Qubit Chips and use them at the Quantum Computer to upgrade it. Do it for all chips to reach Qubit Level 4, unlocking all possible Research.
So, there you have it. Use these Qubit Chips to upgrade your base, unlock advanced research, and then build better Storage modules in your base in The Alters! These are also key for unlocking more Alter slots, for a total of 6.
